Meet alumna Molly, who shares an update with us around career plans and future goals and how Girls Inc. helped her on her path.
What are you up to now?
I am getting my Masters of Public Affairs with a concentration in Policy Analysis at the Indiana University O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. I’m also getting my Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. I graduated from DePauw University in 2018 as a double major in Philosophy and Environmental Biology. I currently work at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office as a Major Felony Intern, and this summer I will be at a large law firm in Indianapolis. My long term career goals are to work in criminal law reform.
What did you learn through the Girls Inc. Experience?
Girls Inc. taught me to be confident, to set high goals for myself, and to embrace the power of being a girl. Through doing gymnastics and completing programs at Girls Inc., I saw what I was capable of and I learned how to bounce back after making mistakes. Being surrounded by supportive peers and mentors showed me that girls can truly do anything and have fun while doing it. I then in turn learned how to help younger girls be themselves and make friends. I have the best memories of putting on fashion shows and playing games with members while I worked and volunteered at Girls Inc.
What advice would you give to girls knowing what you know now?
You deserve a seat at every table and your input is always valid. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Take those leadership positions. What you have to offer is valuable so take every opportunity you can to show that off.
